I just read a report on CNN that many travelers have opted out of flying this Thanksgiving holiday which means that for the 12 day holiday period they expect 37,000 less travelers per day! Sounds like good news to me, but of course they say beware just because there are less people does not mean you will get around easier. Assuming there isn’t any crazy weather I hope we will have a pretty smooth travel day. Always take the first flight out if you are attempting to flying out the day before a holiday. In prior Thanksgivings, when we had an infant we left around 11am to fit with the baby’s nap schedule. This always turned out badly because if you aren’t on the first flight of the morning you are waiting for you plane to come in from a previous flight – which means you are never going to leave on time!
You always take a risk when traveling on a holiday but is it worth it to spend it with family? It is a risk worth taking for us! Many of the family members we visit during this holiday we only see once a year so we overlook all the travel, air travel chaos and general yuckiness that goes with holiday travel and take our chances!
